Local artists!

Participate in painting the Motif as part of the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce’s Motif no 1 Day, to help celebrate the spirit of it's distinction as the most painted vista in...the world.

Artists are encouraged to paint the Motif from any location at any time.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Kids' Event with Cape Ann Art Haven (11 AM - 1 PM)

All supplies provided by Art Haven!

This is a not-a-drop-off event, Parent supervision is required.

  • Adults (Paint 11 AM - 2:00 PM)

  • Judging and Awards (2:00 PM - 3:00 PM) by local esteemed artist, Stapleton Kearns

Bring your completed artwork to Barletta Park for judging.

Winners will be announced and prizes will be awarded to the top 3 adult painters!

We're thrilled to announce that the esteemed Stapleton Kearns will be judging the artwork for Cape Ann Plein Air's Motif No. 1 Day Paint Out Invitational on May 18th!

If you have taken part in his CAPA week Demo’s the last few years, you know what we’re talking about!

Known for his captivating seascapes and vibrant use of color, Stapleton brings a wealth of experience to the table.

Stapleton Kearns, who is seldom without his brush, explains, "Painting is about expressing visual ideas, usually with beauty in mind. Beauty being one of the driving forces behind everything." Kearns' dynamic paintings are filled with rich, poetic emotion. Born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota, Kearns moved to the East Coast for classical nineteenth century instruction from R.H. Ives Gammel at the Fenway Studios in Boston.

An elected member of the Guild of Boston Artists, Kearns also served as president of the Rockport Art Association for five years. Twice, his paintings have been included in the Biannual Show at the National Academy of Design in New York City. He is a member of the New England Plein Air Painters.
