In October, the four Cape Ann communities of Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea will host the Cape Ann Plein Air (CAPA) Festival and Competition in its inaugural year. From October 10-16, 40 nationally recognized painters working “en plein air” will paint on Cape Ann and compete for awards in a week-long celebration of the plein air tradition and contemporary practice.
National plein air competitions take place across the country, contributing millions of dollars to local economies. This will be the first on Cape Ann—the birthplace of American plein air painting.
Cape Ann Plein Air highlights include:
* A week-long calendar of receptions, demonstrations, artist talks, art tours, and workshops
* A “quick draw” day in Manchester-by-the-Sea
* Paint Essex Day
* The Grand Awards Gala on Saturday, October 15 at Rockport Art Association & Museum
* An auction of fresh work in Essex on Sunday, October 16
Several hundred plein air collectors, gallerists, artists and sponsors will be present throughout the week and at the Grand Awards Gala—in addition to hundreds of visitors and plein air enthusiasts who will travel to Cape Ann to experience the event as a day-trip or overnight stay.
You can reach this cultured, affluent and active demographic as a sponsor for the week-long program, the Gala, or an award. Your sponsorship will be highlighted on www.capeannpleinair.com and acknowledged in the official CAPA program – a high-end, perfect-bound catalog produced by Art New England magazine.
In order to bring this wonderful celebration to life we need the support of our generous communities. Opportunities to contribute are available at many levels, and all sponsors will be recognized in Cape Ann Plein Air’s program book (if committed by Aug, 30) and highlighted on our website.
Our Steering Committee includes leaders of the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, Cape Ann Community Foundation, seARTS, the four Cape Ann Cultural Districts, Rocky Neck Art Colony, North Shore Arts Association, Rockport Art Association & Museum, Essex Merchants Group, and the Cape Ann Museum. A true collaboration!
