Palate to Palette, with Joli Ayn Wood at Cala’s Restaurant, Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA

  • Cala's Restaurant 7 Beach Street Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, 01944 United States (map)

Celebrate summer by joining us for our next Palate to Palette dinner on Thursday, June 20th from 5pm-8pm at Cala’s, in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA. Enjoy a delicious meal and watch Joli Ayn Wood, a local artist and plein air painter, paint!

Joli enjoys working both in the studio and out of doors on location. Favorite subjects include the rugged coastline of New England, the mountains and rural landscapes of Southwestern Virginia, as well as the striking Desert Southwest. While painting "en plein air," her aim is to capture the shapes, colors, and light quickly...most times within a couple of hours. Joli finds inspiration in the luminous works of Fitz Henry Lane, the abstract modernity of Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings, the moody, light-filled works by Ed Hopper, as well as contemporary plein air painters of California and the West.

In 2019 she moved to the North Shore of Boston, Massachusetts from Virginia, where she captures the beauty around her, en plein air, and contining her work in the healing arts.

After some time in her own gallery in Rockport, MA, October 2023 brought the relocation of her studio from Rockport just south to the coastal Village of Beverly Farms. A stand alone, charming cottage is now Joli’s main creation and teaching space.

Cala’s Restaurant is defined as ‘HOME-STYLE’ MODERN, ‘CHEERS’ CASUAL.

Cala’s exudes local flavor with an ambiance that is “Cheers” casual. Regulars and newcomers are treated like family. If the bartender doesn’t know your name when you walk in, they likely will know it by the time you leave.

It is a warm and inviting gathering place where families dine out, friends catch up and acquaintances are made. The cuisine boasts classic New England flavors with lobsters caught right off of the shore by one of the restaurant’s favorite regulars, and nightly specials that always keep the menu fresh.

Come for their great food and inspired drinks and watch Joli Ayn paint!
