CAPA 2018 Entry Juror

Hiu Lai Chong is an oil painter who uses vivid colors and sensitive brushstrokes to express mood and feeling in her subjects. She received her early art training in Hong Kong, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Currently living in Rockville, Maryland, she has participated in many plein air events and museum exhibitions around the country. She has won numerous awards including Plein Air Easton Grand Prize and Artist’s Choice Awards, Laguna Plein Air Collector’s Choice Award, Maui Plein Air Best in Show, San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts Museum Purchase Award, Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine and South West Art Magazine’s awards for the “Artist for the New Century” National Exhibition at The Bennington Art Center, and the Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competition Certificate of Excellence.

Hiu Lai is a signature member of Oil Painters of America, American Society of Marine Artists, Laguna Plein Air Painters, Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association and artist member of California Art Club and Washington Society of Landscape Painters. Her paintings are included in several books: “The Art of Plein Air Painting” by Steve Doherty, “Painting California: Seascapes and Beach Towns” by Jean Stern and Molly Siple and “100 Plein Air Painters of the Mid-Atlantic” by Gary Pendleton.
